Too many treasures

I love going to flea markets and thrift stores and I'm always picking up stuff for my vintage Etsy shop. Yes I have another shop, but it's been empty for a long time now. I wanted to collect enough stuff to have a full shop. My closets and garage can no longer hold any more things, so this week I'll be taking photo's and posting items. Keep checking in!

Goodwill Hunting

This looked like so much fun. Sherry from Young House Love and Katie from Bower Power browse a Goodwill store for interesting finds that can be used in stylish ways without spending much dough.

My friend Jennie and I always go thrifting and I don't know what it is that makes it soo much fun. The funky smells, the hunt for treasure, or getting things so cheap. It seems to give us such a high! We end up having an amazingly good time and there is always some crazy giggling involved.

Mid-Century Monday: Couroc of Monterey

I was out thrifting with a friend today and I picked up this adorable tray with two birds. On closer inspection I noticed there was inlaid wood and some kind of metal in the tray. When I turned it over it said made in California, I then stuck it into my basket. :)



The Couroc Company was a Monterey California company that produced many different types and shapes of trays, boxes, ashtrays and glassware from 1948 until their closure in the early 1990s. Their products have become and remain collectable because of their high quality and beauty. Guthrie Courvoisier, owner of Courvoisier Galleries in San Francisco formed Couroc in 1948. His wife, Moira Wallace was a designer that was involved in designing manufacturing - sometimes even 'signing' her work. Couroc was formed in Monterey an area that held strong artistic communes at the time. Being located in a beautiful part of the Pacific coast had other advantages, Couroc relied on a plentiful supply of natural design elements, especially coral and shells. Couroc's Early Years

During the early years, the artists carefully arranged bits and pieces of common metal items one might find at a hardware store into elements of the design. Items like springs, screws, glitter, safety pins and paper clips were commonly part of Couroc's best designs. The artisans also used pieces of brass and other metals and carefully bent them into shape.

While tastes differ, some of the most desirable trays are the aquatic scenes, mosaics, abstract "atomic" bird characters, Walt Disney Tiki Room and the 1950's Capitol Records Tray. via

Vintage finds

I spent my weekend at a flea market and at various thrift shops and I found some amazing things, well I think they are super duper anyway! I got a beat up old Picasso replica that looks very old, these amazing atomic candle holders and some really cute owl salt and pepper shakers. Be sure to check out my vintage items for sale on Etsy, I can only keep so much!

Thrift Find

I hit up one of my favorite thrift shops yesterday. Why is it my favorite, because it's the closest one and it's newish. New thrift shops are wonderful because no one knows about them yet! I snagged a Vladimir Kagan style side table for only $10! Not sure where I'm putting it yet, but I think it's going somewhere in the living room.

Vintage finds

Jackpot! Sunday at the flea market I got a light blue tupperware mold, a really cute wooden abacus and an amazing wooden puzzle (Naef Spiel), all for $1 each. The puzzle is from a Swiss company called Naef. They still make the game today, and it retails for $150. Not bad for $1!

Wednesday I was out doing some late x-mass shopping and I ended up buying stuff mostly for me at HomeGoods. In the office organization section is where I spotted them, four heavy metal jax. I bought 2 of them but, a part of me wanted them all! They are only $9.99!!

My DIY tray project (before and after)

I've had this plastic tray for sale in my Etsy vintage shop for months, priced at $4. It had a cute asian-looking design, but it had some scratches and I didn't think anyone would ever buy it. Sooo... I gave it a new mod facelift! I sprayed it with red Krylon spray paint and I made some custom vinyl circle decals for the center. I love it now!!

I spotted these two cute chairs on Craigslist and I'm debating if I should pick them up. I think they would look great in the foyer against the iron wall, and I have two cute orange pillows that would look great on them! Ok, as I write this, I'm now convinced that I have to have them!
