Experiencing some technical difficulties

OK, so my computer is working, but I think the cooling fan died. Right now I have it on a cool flat surface and I don't hear any weird gurgling noises. A few nights ago the noises got so loud that I freaked out and turned off the computer. I really thought that it was the hard drive dying, but it seems to be working... What's going to be a pain is sending this laptop out to Apple to get it fixed... :(

Post Office kicks off free, by-mail gadget recycling

Got an old camera, cell phone, or MP3 player that you want to toss? Under a new pilot program offered by the U.S. Postal Service, recycling your dead gadgets is as easy as dropping them in the mail.

Computerworld reports that the Post Office's new "Mail Back" program is getting a trial run in 10 U.S. markets, including Chicago, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Washington, D.C. If the pilot program takes off, a nationwide rollout will follow.

So here's the deal: Just bring your old gadgets (handhelds, cell phones, MP3 players, and even inkjet cartridges - no 20" CRTs or dead dot-matrix printers, unfortunately) to one of 1,500 participating post offices, seal them in preprinted, postage-paid envelopes (you can take as many envelopes as you want), and drop them in the mail.

The package goes to Clover Technologies Group, which is partnering with the Post Office in the new recycling program. In a press release, the Post Office promises that Clover will refurbish, resell, or break down the discarded gadgets for recycling, and that nothing will end up in a landfill.

It's a clever idea for those of us with old electronics too outdated to sell on eBay. Indeed, I have an old, 2001-era iPod that's essentially worthless (I priced it over at SecondRotation and got an estimate of exactly $0), and I'd rather drop it in the mail than pay to have it recycled.

Ikea summer collection

When I was at Ikea a few weeks ago I saw the new summer collection at the register area, I wanted to go home and write all about it but the Ikea website didn't have any of it up yet. Well here are the pictures! I really love the fabric, but I think the pillows are meant for the outdoors, they were kind of rough to the touch.

When will spring get here!!

It's been looking so beautiful out my window but when I step out side it's sooo cold! Warm weather get here soon, I miss you!

Not your ordinary t-shirt

These StatAttack t-shirts represent life expectancies in various nations. Andorra was the highest with 83.51 years, and all the way at the bottom was Mozambique with 31.1 years. 20% of the money from the sale of the shirts goes towards building an orphanage in Mozambique. What a great idea! Good design will change the world!

Before and after

Out of all the rooms in my apartment, the kitchen is the one that I like the least. It's actually pretty big, but it's just not a good layout. I guess all old homes have horrible kitchen layouts. There is a bare wall opposite the door that just needed... something. I was running low on storage space, so I decided to fill the empty wall with a Billy bookcase from Ikea, to store all my extra kitchen stuff. I added two glass doors to it, and I really, really love it!

Check out these cool shades by designer Sang Jang Lee. Normally tinted UV blocking lenses would cut the glare of the sun, these “Reed Screen Sunglasses” use the ancient eastern practice of reed screens to block the sun’s blinding glare.
