WAAAA!

For the past year and a half, my husband and I have wanted to buy a house. Not just any home, a retro home built in the 50's-60's, in the Greater Boston area. We have looked, and looked, and looked, but when we find something that looks promising, it's always either too small, too out-in-the-woods, or way out of our budget. I keep going through house listings online hoping for "the right one" to show up, but no luck so far. :-(

I'm sick of apartment living. I want a place where I can paint the walls whatever color I want, have the kitchen of my dreams, maybe a little garden, and where I can vacuum the house at 1:00 in the morning if I feel like it, without fear of pissing off the neighbors. The fact that I'm incredibly impatient by nature doesn't help. Sometimes I feel like a 4-year-old throwing a tantrum: "I WANT A HOUSE, AND I WANT IT NOOOOWWW!!! WWAAAA!!!

Anyway, this Friday we're going to see another house. It was built in 1959 and I really like the look of the outside. I don't think it's quite big enough for us, and it's not in a great area, but I just want to go see it to get it out of my system.

For sale in my shop

I have some vintage brooches for sale in my Etsy shop. I'm cutting back on my collection.

New Work

I have new work! It's a miracle! I still haven't priced them, but my prices will be going up. Sorry! I think I must have had over 100 people inquiring about having their own original Jenn Ski during my painting dry spell. I will be taking better pictures and scans this week and they will end up for sale on my website. Stay tuned.

My favorite Etsy purchase of all time!

I can't wait until they get here, I'm so excited! I purchased these lovely cups from Etsy seller The Aviary. Hopefully none of them break on their way to my house. I would be devastated!!!!!!!!!!!

DIY: Fabric-Covered Corkboard

Images above taken from fresh vintage

Everyone has an ugly corkboard they can dress up. Mine was in my office, but my cat, Floyd, liked it more as a scratching board. It had chunks of cork missing and it looked horrible! I came across a great idea from a blog called Fresh Vintage, and I got inspired to dress it up.

To make my fabric corkboard I used some really cool retro fabric that I had gotten from a flea market, some white paint and staples. Unlike Fresh Vintage, though, I took my corkboard apart, painted the frame and stapled the fabric to the back of the actual board (well, actually the front, because floyd had already destroyed it) before putting everything back together.

"What happened to my cork scratching board?" -Floyd

Wall paper

Above: Funky wallpaper designs from Dominic Crinson. Below: Original vintage wallpaper from 1950 to 1980 from Johnny Tapete.

OK, so wall paper is coming back, but don't over do it! Using wallpaper on a wall as an accent is a great way to add patterns and texture to any room - without feeling like you're being surrounded. Check out these accent walls:
