Everything is still a bit messy but take a peek anyway.

I think we may need to do some trimming! (back of the house)

The Lenox

My husband and I have decided to buy the Lenox sofa from Room and Board, which one of my readers suggested to check out. We taped up the floor to see what sizes would look good in the space. Now we have to wait 2 months for them to be shipped here. I hope they look great, I've always had a hard time buying things I haven't seen in person.

What a weekend!

This was so much harder than I thought it would be! My house is a mess, but I have to work this week and try not to get to distracted and unpack...

I love the house! I'm not sure if I mentioned this yet but it was built in 1952 by a student of Frank Lloyd Wright. It has an amazing layout; it feels so open and the lighting is wonderful. I write this as I stare out the window drooling.

So long, Somerville...

Friday is the big moving day! I will try and get most of my stuff on the truck, but I'm sure I will be making more smaller trips this weekend. I will also try and get some pictures up soon of my empty home riddled with boxes.

Packing

I will be doing most of my packing today and tomorrow, so you won't be seeing to much more of me this week. I will try and keep you all updated on the move. Cya

The wonderful world of Wold!

Thomas Wold has been designing and building furniture and casework since 1993. Before he began designing furniture, Thomas trained in painting and sculpture at California College of Arts and Crafts and the San Francisco Art Institute. (I love all the colors he uses!)

Buying a washer and dryer set

We're moving this week, and one of our first big purchases will be a washer and dryer. Our new house has a septic tank, and they recommend that you use front-loaded washers in houses with septic systems. Front-loaded washers use a third of the water than an equivalent top-loaded washer, which is good for the environment. As it turns out, they also clean your clothes better than front-loaders!

My husband and I have fallen in love with the Whirlpool Duet Steam line. They're expensive, but everyone has told us they're great.

Beautifully simple

Have a wonderful weekend!

Hello everyone! I'm feeling much better, hooray! I've been taking it easy and laying in bed and actually getting work done. This weekend I'm sure I will be out and about looking at furniture, going to Home Depot or packing again. No matter what I'm doing I will be happy because very soon I will be a home owner!

Ouch!

I started to pack up some of the china that I never use and my lower back started to hurt. I then got a phone call and laid down on my bed and put some pillows behind my lower back. After the conversation was over I tried to lean up and it was so painful! I just kept laughing uncontrollably. You know that feeling after a long period of standing and you get home and you lay down on your back? It's like that, but much worse. It's so hard to get out of bed, no matter what I do I get this sharp, paralyzing muscle pain...

Hopefully this gets better, because we won't have any help with the big move. I will probably need to buy one of those supportive belts they're required to wear at home improvement stores like Home Depot. Lovely.

Work work work

I've been having a hard time getting my self to work on my animals lately. My husband actually got me to sit down and work today and I made a cute Koala, but all I want to do is think about decorating the house. :P

A new different approach to Alexander Calder inspired hanging modern art mobiles. No plastic! No paint! Nothing toxic! Debra Ann mobiles are made with the highest quality stainless steel and soft natural nylon fiber that floats in the air in the slightest breeze. Each art mobile is handmade when you order it. Add a beautiful kinetic art mobile sculpture to any space in your home. A soft graceful addition to baby's room too. Custom colors, designs, and commissions are available.

Sara Paloma Pottery

I love Sara's vases, they're so beautiful! All of her work has been handmade on a potters wheel and fired in an electric kiln. Make sure you check out her Etsy shop.

Furniture shopping

OK, so my husband and I have been thinking about what furniture will go into the living room at our new place. I want the couches to be somewhat neutral in color because they will be across from a Chinatown orange wall I plan to paint in the dining room, which is currently a dirty red.

My black dining room furniture will pop against this orange!

I've looked around everywhere and I still love the KRAMFORS sofa series from Ikea. I think we will be getting the one above, but we still haven't decided on a color yet. The only thing I'm concerned about is the quality. Will it last?

As for the Arco floor lamp pictured above, I already snatched one up on Craigslist for $20. yes, $20! I'm so ready to move in, this has been the longest month of my life!

Love this! My inspiration!

Jenn Ski the illustrator?

I never would have thought of myself as an illustrator. Never! Back in college, I was told by my boss at my graphic design internship that I was not an illustrator and that I should stick to graphic design. I guess everyone has had someone put them down at some point in their lives. You just have to brush it off and keep going, I guess.

Anyway, I'm working on an alphabet of animals different from the set I've been selling. Because it's such a large project, I've become the biggest procrastinator - not because I don't want to do it, but because it feels so overwhelming! So yesterday I had a meeting with my agent, Lilla, and she gave me some great tips to stay on track...

I've gotten myself on a schedule: I assigned myself projects to work on each day and posted the dates at which they're due at a client's. I got myself an actual, physical calendar (I just don't have the discipline to organize around one of those computery ones). Now I can literally see where I'm at on any given project.

I still need to add some more tasks to it, but just having a visual representation of where I'm at and where I'm going takes a huge weight off my shoulders!
