So this past weekend I took a letterpress and book-binding workshop at Albertine Press. We started off Saturday working with lead type. I can't believe people used to use this type for making newspapers back in the day, it's very tedious work.
Our first project was to bring in a quote and arrange it with type anyway we liked. Shelley Barandes, who runs Albertine Press, showed us all the tricks on how to work with type and how to use her press. The press looked scary at first, but once you get the hang of if it it's a breeze. Also be sure to check out the Albertine Press Etsy shop.
Sunday was the book-binding part of the workshop, led by Angela Liguori. I had always wanted to learn about book-binding, but was a little intimidated by the whole process. I have to say when you see someone doing it it's so much easier to learn! Angela brought in beautiful papers, with which each person in the class made a soft-cover book and a hard-cover book. Later on she showed us some examples of other work she's made - absolutely stunning! Check out her Etsy shop.
